Scissor Lift Transport Across the Country

Scissor lifts span a wide range of sizes and applications. A narrow electric lift built for finished warehouse floors and a four-wheel-drive rough-terrain machine built for a muddy site are not the same haul, not even close.

Heavy Equipment Shipper ships narrow slab lifts, standard electric machines, diesel rough-terrain units, wide-deck models, and the extension-deck versions that run a little longer than the spec sheet’s headline number. Warehouses, contractors, rental branches, facility managers, dealers, auction buyers, and single-machine owners all send us this scissor lift work.

Here’s the thing nobody expects: these weigh more than they look like they ought to. A mid-size rough-terrain lift runs past seven thousand pounds, and the tall ones clear twelve. Folks who have only pushed the little electric ones around a warehouse can be surprised by that.

Give us the make and model, and add the weight and the stowed height if you can find them. Photos can help too. You’ll get back a plain quote and a plan built around your actual machine.

We Ship Slab and Rough-Terrain Scissor Lifts Alike

Height determines your trailer on a scissor lift. Width almost never does, since even the big rough-terrain machines come in narrow enough to stay clear of permit territory.

The guardrails fold down on most of these machines, and that changes everything. On one popular rough-terrain model, it’s 99 inches stowed with the rails up and 69 inches with them down. Same machine, and on some routes that’s the difference between a routine run and a permit.

Deck height matters just as much from our side. A flatbed sits around five feet off the ground, a step deck closer to three and a half, and a lowboy well under two. Put a tall lift on the wrong one, and you’ve made a clearance problem that didn’t need to exist.

We have a variety of trailers for every type of scissor lift

  • Flatbeds for slab machines and short runs
  • Step decks for most rough-terrain units
  • Lowboys when the rails have to stay up
  • Hotshots for the small electric lifts
  • Enclosed trailers for finished machines
  • Multi-unit loads for fleet moves

Once a machine crosses ten thousand pounds, it falls under the heavy equipment securement rules, and the tallest rough-terrain machines are the ones that get there. Most slab lifts never come close. Either way, that’s our carrier’s job to sort out, not yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Make, model, operating weight, stowed height, whether it’s a slab or rough-terrain machine, running condition, both addresses, and your dates. A photo or two never hurts, since they show us the loading situation better than a description usually does.

Not always, no, but folding them is usually the smartest move you can make. For example, Skyjack publishes the SJ6832 RT at 99 inches with the rails up and 69 inches with them down, and a drop like that can change which deck we send. If yours folds, tell us.

Absolutely, both all the time! They’re just different jobs. The electric slab machines are lighter and narrower and often load at a dock, while the rough-terrain units are heavier, sit on foam-filled tires, and usually load at ground level out on a site. Tell us which one you’ve got, and we’ll plan around it.

No, the platform stays right where it is. Scissor lifts ship as one piece, with the deck fully lowered and any extension slid back in. If yours has an extension deck, just make sure it’s retracted before the driver gets there, since an extended deck adds length that nobody planned for.

Slab machines usually go on a flatbed or a hotshot, and rough-terrain lifts more often want a step deck. When a machine has to travel with the rails up for some reason, a lowboy buys back the clearance. Give us the weight and the height, and we’ll work out the rest.

Usually not, which makes these some of the easier loads we book. They’re narrow enough that width almost never comes up, so permits only come into play when a tall machine has to travel with the rails up. If one is needed, we handle the paperwork and let you know well in advance.

Sure can. A winch pulls a dead lift on easily enough as long as it still rolls. Give us a heads-up when you book so the driver turns up with the right gear, because a machine that won’t move under its own power on a dock with no forklift around is a wasted trip for everybody.

All the time. We’ll want to know the dock height, whether there’s a leveler, and what the receiving hours look like. Some facilities want a scheduled appointment and a name on a security list, and it’s a whole lot easier to arrange that a week out than the morning of.

We’d be glad to. Fleet moves are common in this line of work, and depending on the machines, several will often ride the same deck. Send us the list with weights and heights, and we’ll work out how they fit and how many trucks it takes.

Yes, and we wouldn’t put it on a truck otherwise. We review the carrier’s cargo coverage before we hand them anything, and our driver photographs your lift going on and coming off, so its condition is on record both times.
